Toy Story 4 claimed the weekend box office crown, topping out at $118 million dollars. Although it came in a little under expectations as projections were $140-$165 million, Disney can’t be disappointed with the result. Being one of the largest box office openings for an animated film of all time, Toy Story 4 even bested its predecessor Toy Story 3’s opening numbers by $1 million dollars.
Among the returning cast of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusak, the movie is supplemented by an influx of new stars including Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendricks, Jordan Peele, and Keegan-Michael Key. If this is in fact to be the last “Toy Story” film made, it signals the end of an era and the conclusion to the franchise that kick started the 3-d animation revolution.
