The Original Cast of Beverly 90210,Then and Now

Beverly Hills 90210 was considered one of the biggest and most memorable shows of the 90’s in addition to being Hollywood’s hottest zip code. The show ran for almost 10 years, producing fashion and cultural crazes among avid viewers. Recently, there have been serious rumours in regards to rebooting the series with the original cast. However, there’s been no official confirmation on the subject  of rebooting or to  what  the story arcs will be. But let’s take a trip down memory lane to see what the original cast looked like, and what they’re up to now.

Jason Priestley as Brandon Walsh

Then:
When Beverly Hills 90210 concluded its first season, Jason Priestley rose to prominence as a teen idol. He was the main protagonist of the series and the so called “good guy”. However, his character developed gambling and drinking problems as the series progressed. Eventually, in season 8, Brandon and Steve co-founded the Beverly Beat newspaper which Brandon left in season 9 for the The New York Chronicle, signalling his departure from the show.

Now:

Jason Priestley began directing after his stint on Beverly 90210. He has now been directing for over 15 years, one of his projects being an episode of the newer 90210, not to be confused with the original show on which it was based. He has landed roles on Tru Calling, Call Me Fitz and I want to Marry Ryan Banks; and made guest appearances on What I Like About You, CSI, and How I Met Your Mother  to name a few. He is married to Naomi Lowde and has two kids.

Shannen Doherty as Brenda Walsh

Then:

Shannen Doherty played Brenda Walsh, the fraternal twin sister of Brandon. They moved to Beverly Hills because of their fathers job reassignment. Initially, she was overwhelmed by her new environment but in the second season she broke out of her shell. She dated Brandon’s best friend, Dylan, whom she fought over with Kelly until Brenda was written off after season 4. Brenda moved to London and went to study arts at the Royal Academy for Dramatic Arts.

Now:

Shannen Doherty landed a lead role on the show Charmed for three seasons. She had to leave the show after on-set tension with co-star Alyssa Milano. However , she was able to reprise her role as Brenda Walsh in the 90210 reboot. In 2010, Doherty competed in Dancing with the Stars but failed to win the competition. She has starred in two reality shows – “Shannen Says” and “Off the Map with Shannen and Holly”. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.

Jennie Garth as Kelly Taylor

Then:
Jennie Garth played the role of Kelly Taylor. She was known as the  brat of the bunch. Regardless, she was  later promoted to the series’ female lead after the departure of Shannen Doherty’s character. Kelly was a key component in the series’ main love triangle – Dylan, Brenda and Kelly. Playing Kelly was a challenging role as she faced the most trauma out of all the characters.Some of the awful things Kelly endured included being trapped in a fire, shooting her rapist, becoming addicted to cocaine, getting  amnesia and having miscarriage.

Now:
Jennie Garth has reprised her role in spin-offs Melrose and 90210 to gain viewers. She also starred in “What I Like About You” for four seasons and reunited with Tori Spelling in “Mystery Girls”. Garth joined reality shows like Dancing with the Stars (finished in fourth place) and renovated her home on HGTV’s The Jennie Garth Project. In 2013, she divorced Peter Facinelli after 12 years of marriage. After two years, she married Dave Abrams.

Luke Perry as Dylan McKay

Then:
Luke Perry starred as Dylan Mckay in the series. Dylan was a dangerous loner and the heartthrob of the group; he was the son of an ambiguous business tycoon and his hippie ex-wife. Dylan was notable for  standing up to the school bullies. He is friends with Brandon who helps him soften his rebel attitude. Later, he is entwined in a love triangle with Kelly and Brenda. After so many break-ups and confrontations, Dylan ended up with Kelly but eventually parted ways.

Now:
After “90210” ended, Luke Perry took the risk of playing more mature roles. He landed  roles in  Oz, Windfall, Criminal Minds, Will & Grace, Law & Order: SVU and John from Cincinnati. In the early 2000s, Luke Perry was also active in stage plays. His most notable role was playing Brad Majors in The Rocky Horror Show and played opposite  Alyson Hannigan in When Harry Met Sally. He starred in CW series Riverdale as Fred Andrews before his unexpected death on February 27th, 2019.

Ian Ziering as Steve Sanders

Then:
Ian Ziering played the goofy Steve Sanders. He was one of the original characters  in the series and best friend of the male lead, Brandon Walsh. Steve is a light-hearted rich kid who drives a Corvette and is popular in school. He founded the After Dark Club and started a newspaper company. He was romantically involved with Clare but eventually married Janet Sosna when Clare moved to France. Janet Sonsa was his second business partner in his newspaper venture.

Now:
Aside from being a famous American actor, Ian Ziering is also the voice actor behind Vinnie on Biker from Mars. But his popularity continued to skyrocket as a result of him starring as Fin in Syfy’s Sharknado films. He has also joined reality competitions such as Dancing with the Stars, Worst Cooks for America: Celebrity Edition and Celebrity Apprentice. He married his second wife, Erin Ludwig in 2010 and they have raised two children together.

Tori Spelling as Donna Martin

Then:
Tori Spelling played the goody two shoes of the group, Donna Martin. She was famous for losing her virginity to her selfless boyfriend, David, on their graduation day. She was supposed to be a supporting role but was elevated as the main role with her own storylines. She is friends with Kelly and grew up in Beverly Hills. She ended up owning a boutique and marrying David. In CW’s spin-off, it was revealed she expanded her design business overseas but separated from David.

Now:
Tori Spelling released a semi-autobiographical VH1 sitcom entitled So Notorious; however, it failed to gain the expected number of viewers. She began producing a series of reality shows  featuring her marriage with husband, Dean McDermott. Unfortunately, they became a tabloid staple couple after McDermott admitted he has cheated on her. Moreover, Spelling ventured on publishing and released six books. Later on, she reunited with her 90210 co-star Jenny Garth for ABC’s Mystery Girls which was canceled due to low ratings.

Brian Austin Green as David Silver

Then:
Brian Austin Green played the role of David Silver. Silver was the young, snobby, musically-inclined boy in the group. He was a talented DJ and knew how to  organize  festive, yet vibrant teen parties. Although his singing skills were undeniably poor, his rap skills were superb.In addition to DJing and rapping, Daniel was also not a bad dancer. He had an  on and off relationship with Donna, which eventually ended up with the two walking down the aisle together. In the reboot, Silver separated from Donna for a short time after their first daughter was born.

Now:
Brian Austin Green continued to be prominent in Hollywood after the show. His biggest role to date was playing the resistance fighter, Derek Reese, in  Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and John Corben/Metallo on Smallville. He has also guest starred in many different series such as CSI, Melrose Place, Growing Pains and Hope & Faith, the latter being  where he met Megan Fox, his future wife. They tied the knot in 2010 and have  two sons together.

Gabrielle Carteris as Andrea Zuckerman

Then:
Andrea Zuckerman, played by Gabrielle Carteris, had the role of the focused and socially shy student. She had a huge crush on Brandon, but their relationship remained platonic. Despite this unrequited love, she put her studies first  which helped her  graduate as Valedictorian. She was accepted to Yale but chose CU to be near her friends and family. Andrea had a baby with Jesse, her college sweetheart whom she married but eventually divorced.

Now:
Gabrielle Carteris left 90210 in 1995 and went on to host her own talk show entitled Gabrielle. However, this talk show was canceled after one season due to its low ratings. She was never given a lead role in a series but was continuously given voiceover work. She has landed minor roles in limited series, made-for-TV movies and guest-starred on several network shows. She was also a trade union leader and popularly known as the Vice President of the California Labor Federation.

Tiffani Thiessen as Valerie Malone

Then:
Tiffani Thiessen character was hated by almost everyone when she played the Beverly Hills 90210 bad-girl , Valerie Malone. When Brenda left the series, Valerie entered in the fifth season. She slept with everyone’s boyfriend, including a married man, causing all the girls to dislike and mistrust her. She was a co-owner of the Peach Pit After Dark. It was revealed later on that her wild behavior was caused by being molested by her father in her youth.

Now:
Having starred as Kelly Kapowski in Saved by the Bell, Tiffani Thiessen was already a star before coming to Beverly Hills 90210. After her role on the show concluded, she landed acted in several true-crime-inspired television films, limited series and was a guest star on comedies and talk shows. Later on, she landed a role in the American crime series’ White Collar for six seasons. She hosted her own show entitled Dinner at Tiffani’s airing on the Cooking Channel. She married Brady Smith on July 9, 2005, and gave birth on two children – Harper Renn and Holt Fisher.

Kathleen Robertson as Clare Arnold

Then:
Kathleen Robertson joined Beverly Hills 90210 as Clare Arnold during its fourth season. This season showcased the characters transitioning to college. Clare was smart but bares her wild side sometimes. She was known on campus as Kelly and Donna’s roommate, and as the daughter of the Chancellor of California University. Clare was also the first girlfriend of Steve Sanders but later broke up when her character accepted an opportunity to study in France during the seventh season.

Now:
Kathleen Robertson never made  big waves in the industry but was given regular roles in films and television. She starred on the Canadian series entitled The Business in 2006 but the show  wasn’t renewed for another season due to low ratings. In 2011, Robertson landed a role as Kitty O’Neil on Starz’s Boss and a guest role in Bates Motel. She has starred as homicide detective Hildy Mulligan in the TNT series Murder in the First since 2014.

Lindsay Price as Janet Sosna

Then:
Lindsay Price became a part of the  series with the  role of Janet Sonsa. Her character joined Beverly Beat as news editor. She worked hard to keep her position in the newspaper until she pursued Steve. Initially, her Japanese parents disagreed on their relationship but Steve made a move to mend fences. In season 10, Steve proposed to Janet when he found out she was pregnant. She eventually  gave birth to a baby girl around Thanksgiving.

Now:
Lindsay Price landed roles on three series – Eastwick, Pepper Dennis, and Lipstick Jungle. However, all the mentioned series were short-lived and canceled after one or two seasons due to low viewership. She was a guest star in How I Met Your Mother where she dated co-star, Josh Radnor. At the present, she is married to Curtis Stone, an Australian celebrity chef. They have two sons together.

Mark Espinoza as Jesse Vasquez

Then:
Mark Espinoza entered the series as a bartender in Season 4. He played Jesse Vasquez, the love interest of Andrea Zuckerman. Andrea quickly fell for Jesse due to his charm. She got pregnant resulting in the pairs engagement and marriage. However, the couple were unfaithful to each other with both parties cheating at some point. After many trials in their relationship, Jesse and Andrea decided to divorce.

Now:
Mark Espinoza built up his resume with a lot of theatre works. He also had prominent roles on soap operas such as police detective Alberto Aguilar on The Young and the Restless and as a Justice of Peace on Days of our Lives. He has guest starred on Castle, Parenthood, and House. His most recent work is as the Chairman of Joint Chiefs on Scandal. He is popularly known as Mark D. Espinoza.

Emma Caulfield as Susan Keats

Then:
Emma Caulfield played Susan Keats, the primary love interest of Brandon starting from  Season 6. She was the editor of CU’s college newspaper, The Condor, and was a self-proclaimed feminist. Susan was impregnated by her ex-boyfriend, Jonathan Caston but later had an abortion. She wrote an article regarding this experience and won an award for expressing her right of choice. She earned a job in Clinton/Gore campaign which caused her break-up with Brandon.

Now:
Susan Keats came into prominence when she landed a role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Anya after her stint in 90210. She has also starred in few episodes of Robot Chicken and Life Unexpected. Recently, she  guest starred in Jane Espenson’s comedy series, Husbands and Royal Pains. She has released her own Youtube channel, Essenemma. After her divorce with Cornelius Grobbelaar, she married Mark Leslie Ford and gave birth to one daughter.

Daniel Cosgrove as Matt Durning

Then:
Matt Durning was played by the charming Daniel Cosgrove. Matt is an incredibly intelligent yet boring lawyer. He gradually became closer to Donna Martin, Kelly Taylor and the rest of the gang.  Matt was engaged to Kelly for a short time. Later on, he donated his sperm to his sister-in-law and brother. But when his brother died, he decided to move to the Big Apple to be with his daughter.

Now:
Daniel Cosgrove’s star didn’t shine the brightest in showbiz. But he has landed minor roles like playing Chandler on All My Children and on daytime soaps such as Bill Lewis on Guiding Light. He had his movie debut in The Object of My Affection. He was married to Marie and had four children. He is a bailiff in the New Country Sheriff’s Department.

Jason Wiles as Colin Robbins

Then:
Jason Wiles played Colin Robbins. Robbins was a New York Artist who moved to L.A. He was an old flame of Valerie and later had a destructive connection with Kelly. He introduced Kelly to using cocaine. When Kelly abused and felt the damage of cocaine, he left her and got back with Valerie. But Colin and Valerie’s second shot at love was cut short when he was arrested and sentenced to at least two years in jail after being found guilty of drug possession.

Now:
Jason Wiles continued his rise to fame. He starred in all six seasons of Third Watch as Bosco. His most recent work is playing Sheriff Clark Hudson of the Scream TV series. However, the show was  later canceled after the network decided not to renew it. He landed minor roles in a few television series like Criminal Minds, CSI: New York and Castle. Jason Wiles is a father of two children with his estranged wife Joanne Roberts.
