The St. Louis Blues have finally won their first Stanley Cup in franchise history! Having been established as a franchise in 1967 and not having made the Stanley Cup Final since 1970, no team has had to wait longer than the Blues to finally hoist Lord Stanley’s mug above their heads. That it came in the most unlikely of seasons makes this championship even more improbable.
The Blues fired their head coach in November and found themselves dead last in the NHL standings just last January. A remarkable turnaround later and a third place finish in the Central division, St.Louis woke up at the end of the regular season firmly in place to compete in the playoffs. From there, the Blues battled their way through the Jets, Stars, and Sharks before finally defeating the Bruins in seven grueling games to win the Stanley Cup. Congratulations St.Louis, you deserve it!
